RECONNECTING BARNSBURY ESTATE

Barnsbury estate is made up of multiple 5 story flat buildings with them all sitting on different ground levels. The 2m level changes throughout the estate and the placements of fences make it hard for residents interact and form a strong community. One resident described it as if “living in a fortress”.  In my proposal I aim to bridge these level changes and create a fun and playful environment for all residents of the estate by using inflatable structures. The residents will go to sleep and upon them waking up the estate will be filled with inflatables such as a community kitchen, allotments, play spaces, slides and inflatable bubbles. Creating a magical space for the community to thrive.
